Going Out – The World Becomes Our Classroom
Sometimes the answer cannot be found in a book or in the classroom.
Children learn to take their questions into the real world. They may visit a museum, library, business, workshop, historical site or another place connected with their research.
Whenever possible, the children take an active role in planning the experience. They research where to go, find information, communicate, consider time and costs, and prepare what they will need.
The adult is there to provide safety and appropriate support. The children gradually learn to take responsibility for the journey.
The world becomes an extension of the classroom.
